»Isles & Rivers« is a program in flux, along solidifying and dissolving boundaries. European baroque music as well as pieces by Sokratis Sinopoulos, Keyvan and Bijan Chemirani flow together through improvisations and invite you to get out and back into the river on different banks – sometimes foaming wildly, sometimes quietly. In his piece »Knowing Nothing«, Yannis Kyriakides, who is also on stage as a live electronic artist, dedicated himself to the philosopher Metrodorus from the island of Chios. For the first time, the cast put together for the evening presents another piece by Kyriakides: »the island remained silent«. The form of the piece is a song cycle in which the automatically generated melodies are not sung but played by the ensemble. It is based on eight texts about a narrator's first encounter with an island. »Isles & Rivers« left enthusiastic audiences at performances in Berlin, Greece and Luxembourg. Now the project can be experienced again in the Radialsystem with the outstanding soloists Sokratis Sinopoulos on the lyre and Bijan and Keyvan Chemirani on Persian percussion as well as an Outernational string quintet.
On Saturday, the concert will be introduced by a listening session with Kübra Gümüşay, who wrote the essay »Water Walls« for the program and will perform it live together with Yannis Kyriakides.
